Stepanka Cervinkova is a freelance filmmaker based in Melbourne, VIC.
Stepanka started in camera departments, eventually working on acclaimed ABC shows The Katering Show 1 and The Katering Show 2, an award winning feature film Pawno, and upcoming feature film M4M
Stepanka has worked on local and International TVCs for companies such as Qantas, Mattel, Sunsuper, Ozito,Origin, Abbey Road Studios, MSFW or Skoda; broadcasters ABC, Fox Sports, Fox Arts; and local iconic cultural institutions such as Arts Centre Melbourne.
In 2018 Stepanka commenced Master of Film and Television studies at VCA.
In 2018 she was awarded scholarship to attend workshop conducted by Cristian Mungiu (winner of Palme D’Or, Cannes Film Festival) and Virtual Reality workshop under tutelage of Donald Zirpola and Matt Thompson (MIT).
Stepanka’s photographic portrait series of female identifying, trans and non-binary musicians “Melbourne Lure” was selected to be exhibited at George Paton Gallery (October 2018). In addition the series was awarded UMSU arts grant.
Her zombie comedy short film The Body Corporate is being currently screened at International festivals.
Open to viewers’ interpretation her artwork is infused with irony and sense of mystery. Stepanka is utilizing strong audiovisual symbols and delicate compositions in a subversive manner. She is interested in exploring paradoxes of human conditions. Her work feels menacing and empowering at the same time.
